A sandwich, salad, or burrito almost costs about $10 in the nation’s capital. If my memory serves me correctly, I think these items used to be about $5 at some point. As the dollar devalues, items will priced in 5-cent increments, not penny increments, followed by 10-cent increments until we’re suddenly at dollar increments and then we’ll be using dollars as we used to use pennies. A potential sign of this future is the DC Metro’s promotion of the dollar coin. I already don’t wait for change if it’s only penny coins. When dollars can only buy a gumball, I’ll have the same attitude about a dollar coins.
