If dollars didn’t exist, what would you accept as payment?

Let’s go back in time to Germany in the early 1920s or back to Zimbabwe in the early 2000s, times when fiat money, the colorful paper you may have in your wallet, became worthless. Or let’s go into the future of your current country, when the money you hold will buy much less than it buys today.
